About the clinic — and about who makes the preparation

This site belongs to Han's United Hospital in Shangrao: the clinic that admits patients and runs the treatment. The microbiota preparation itself is made by a separate organisation, the company Jialan. Below: who is responsible for what, what backs it up, and what we do not promise.

Why we do this

Han's United is a general hospital: paediatric rehabilitation, cell technologies, standard medical departments, traditional Chinese medicine. Most of our patients are children with developmental disorders and their families.

Working with them, we kept running into the same thing. Among children with autism spectrum disorders, digestive problems occur in 30–70% of cases — the most common co-occurring condition there is. While the stomach hurts and bowel movements are unsettled, therapy sessions go harder, the child sleeps worse and tolerates less.

That is why the microbiota programme appeared at the clinic — not instead of rehabilitation but alongside it. For adults with chronic bowel problems the method is offered on the same grounds.

Who does what

We set this out plainly: different organisations are responsible for different parts of the treatment, and you are entitled to know which is which.

Han's United clinic

Shangrao, Jiangxi Province

Admits the patient: reviews records and test results, decides whether the method fits, prescribes the form of the preparation, and follows the patient during and after the course. The medical licence belongs to the clinic.

The company Jialan

A manufacturer, not a clinic

Prepares the product: its own microbiota testing laboratory, donor bank, production and quality control. No treatment takes place there and it admits no patients.

Coordinators

The organisational side

Translation, meeting you on arrival, accommodation, contact with the doctor and handling of documents. A coordinator makes no medical decisions — questions about treatment go to the doctor.

Documents and the status of the method

What can be verified rather than taken on trust.

The clinic's licence

Shangrao Jingkai Han's United Hospital, 上饶经开汉氏联合医院. Licence to practise as a medical institution, registration number PDY01362936112113A1002, valid from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2029. Issued by the Health Commission of Guangxin District, Shangrao.

The status of the method itself in China

Microbiota transplantation is listed in the National Technical Standards for Medical Services under code KPH3M401 and classified as a new medical technology of low to medium risk. Official tariffs have been set for it in more than twenty provinces.

The rules the preparation is made under

The manufacturer works to three Chinese expert consensus documents: on the standardised methodology of microbiota transplantation (2020), on the management of its clinical application (2022), and on laboratory preparation and quality control (2023). These are the documents named in the informed consent every patient signs.

How it starts

The first assessment is free and commits you to nothing. Money is discussed only after the doctor has said whether the method makes sense at all.

1

You describe your situation

You fill in a health questionnaire and attach whatever discharge summaries and test results you have. You can simply write to us in a messenger — a coordinator will help gather the documents.

2

A doctor reads the records

Not a salesperson. The doctor says plainly whether this method makes sense in your case and what is missing for a decision.

3

Microbiota analysis

If the method is being considered, a stool sample is analysed; the report takes 5–7 working days. There is a threshold: below an index of 70 transplantation is recommended, between 70 and 80 only if there are symptoms — otherwise probiotics are enough.

4

Treatment plan

Based on the results the doctor draws up a plan: the form of the preparation, the length of the course, what to do at home. Scheduled follow-up: after one week, one month, then at 3, 6 and 12 months.

Who will be looking after you

The clinic's medical board has 26 specialists: 16 physicians and 10 rehabilitation specialists. The microbiota programme is led by a gastroenterologist.

Ding Kun (丁堃)

Deputy chief physician, department of gastroenterology

A graduate of Gannan Medical University. For over forty years he has worked on complex and hard-to-diagnose gastroenterology cases and on endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of digestive diseases. He has served as director of a digestive endoscopy centre and as deputy chief physician of a tertiary hospital.

Patients travelling from abroad are accompanied by a Russian-speaking coordinator and a staff interpreter, who stay in contact throughout the course and attend appointments and examinations.

Where this happens

The clinic

Shangrao, Jiangxi Province, economic and technological development zone, Han's health technology park. A general hospital: its own diagnostics and doctors across specialties in one place, so a complex or multi-system case can be managed entirely here.

The laboratory

Microbiota analysis and preparation of the product take place at Jialan's laboratory in Hangzhou. Samples are couriered there; the finished preparation arrives frozen, in dry ice.

What such a laboratory is required to have

The Chinese 2022 consensus sets this out in detail: a biosafety level 2 facility or a production suite, five separate zones totalling at least 54 m², freezers at +4, −20 and −80 degrees, barcode traceability from donor to preparation to recipient kept for at least a year, a dedicated donor-management officer and no fewer than two accredited physicians.

If you are travelling from another country

Your language

A Russian-speaking coordinator and a staff interpreter accompany you at appointments and examinations throughout the course.

Travel and accommodation

Meeting at the airport, transfer, a separate flat near the clinic with a kitchen and laundry, help with a SIM card and the first trip to the shops.

Contact after you leave

Follow-up continues remotely: after a week, after a month, then at 3, 6 and 12 months. A repeat analysis at six to twelve months decides whether a consolidating course is needed.

Payment

At the clinic's cash desk: cash, Alipay, WeChat, UnionPay, Visa, Mastercard. Treatment prices are published openly.

What we do not promise

We would rather say this ourselves — before you make a decision.

There is no guarantee of a result

The clinic states plainly that it cannot guarantee an effect in every patient, nor that symptoms will not return.

There is no single yardstick for the result

The method has no generally accepted criteria of assessment. For different people with the same diagnosis, the timing and degree of improvement differ.

Autism is not cured

In a mild form a child may afterwards differ little from peers. In moderate and severe forms it is a matter of improved speech and social ability. Sessions with speech and developmental therapists are not cancelled.

The effect is not permanent

Transplanted microbiota persists from a month to several years, depending on diet, lifestyle and medication.

The method does not suit everyone

There are conditions where we are obliged to refuse or postpone: immunodeficiency, severe immunosuppression, active infection outside the gut, pregnancy and others. A refusal here is not a formality — living bacteria are being introduced into the gut.

We do not rush you

There is no such thing here as “the price holds until the end of the week”. If you are being rushed into a decision about a medical procedure anywhere, that is a reason to pause.

What this rests on

For recurrent C. difficile infection the method is recommended by clinical guidelines and recognised worldwide. For every other indication it rests on Chinese expert consensus documents and accumulated clinical data — a developing direction, not an established standard. We say this the same way on every page of the site.

The largest safety study covers 8,547 patients followed from two weeks to five years (Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology, 2022). The outcome figures we quote come from the analysis of 15,000 cases carried out at the hospital of Tongji University. That is published research, not our own statistics — we think it matters not to pass one off as the other.

The company that makes the preparation

According to Jialan itself. We reproduce it as it stands: these are the company's statements about itself, not an independent check.

2018

Founding

The Jialan health-management group was established.

2019

Headquarters

Headquarters opened in Hainan, in the Boao Lecheng international medical tourism zone.

2022

Work with a state hospital

A clinical nutrition department was set up jointly with the First People's Hospital of Yuncheng.

2023

Its own science

The company's institute of life sciences was created; medical technology companies opened in Hainan.

2024

Professional bodies

Cooperation was formalised with the China Non-government Medical Institutions Association.

The group's profile is wider than microbiota: women's health, child development, clinical nutrition. Microbiota transplantation is one of its later directions, and we do not present it as the company's decades-long backbone.
